Electron Beam Angiography
Electron
beam angiography (EBA) represents the next level
in
cardiac diagnosis. Approved by the FDA in November,
1999, the technique is used to visualize the coronary
arteries without having to go through an invasive procedure
called cardiac catheterization.
In that procedure,
a plastic tube must be inserted into the aorta and
coronary artery openings. Contrast is injected directly
into the coronary arteries. With EBA, the contrast
is injected into a vein in the arm, with no internal
tubes involved.
The scanner takes images
with the contrast and we can then reconstruct three
dimensional
pictures to look for narrowings in the coronary arteries.
The white
paper describes the technique and its indications,
and provides some images from studies obtained at
LifeScore®.
